What is the Medicare reimbursement criteria for manual wheelchairs?

If you can’t use a cane or walker safely, but you have enough upper body strength or have someone who is available to help, you may qualify for a manual wheelchair. There has to be an established need for a wheelchair within the walls of the patient's home. Manual Wheelchairs are usually billed through Medicare as a 13 month capped rental.

You must have a medical need in your home for Medicare and most insurance companies to cover a motorized wheelchair or mobility scooter. Medicare and most insurance companies will not cover equipment if used mainly for leisure or recreational activities, or if it is only needed to move around outside of the home.

Why use DMEscripts?

DMEscripts recognizes that the current DME ordering process relies heavily on fax communication and/or multiple calls with the DME company. These processes can be cumbersome, frustrating, and frankly quite inefficient for both the clinic and patient resulting in substantial equipment delivery delays.

*The system is setup to ask specific questions based on product type and insurance payor to ensure the orders are pre-qualified prior to submission. 96.2% of DMEscripts orders are accepted on the first pass!

*With DMEscripts, we can take away the faxing and multiple calls and replace it with a simple and safe electronic platform to create, transmit and track DME orders. Our platform also offers an instant messaging feature that allows the DME supplier and the healthcare providers to collaborate virtually.

*In a recent case study with Dignity Health System in California, it showed that using DMEscripts for their order processing reduced the time it took to get a device to their patients’ home by almost 80%.

Spend more time caring for patients and less time faxing orders.

DMEscripts guides you through an easy step-by-step process to create complete and accurate medical equipment orders in minutes, not days.

<90% of DMEscripts orders are accepted on the first pass.
